📜 A Bit of Local History: Why "Ashburton" Podiatry is in Ashwood?

A lot of our long-term patients and local GPs often ask why we are called Ashburton Podiatry when our front door is firmly located in Ashwood!

The story goes back to the very beginning of the practice nearly 30 years ago. I had originally finalized arrangements to open my clinical rooms right behind the well-known Friends Chemist on High Street Road in Ashburton. The business name was registered, and all the clinical stationery, signboards, and appointment cards were printed and ready to go.

At the absolute last minute, the premises fell through. Faced with a sudden deadline to find a new home for the practice, I had to act fast—and managed to secure our wonderful, permanent location just down the road in Ashwood.

Rather than letting a mountain of perfectly good, freshly printed stationery go to waste, I kept the name. Over the last three decades, it has become a fond reminder of how the practice started, and we have proudly served families across both the Ashwood and Ashburton communities ever since.
